Where can you get sourdough pizza in Scarborough?
Right here on Howden Rd. Penelope Bakehouse is an Italian bakery and focacceria, and we sell sourdough pizza by the slice at the counter. The dough is made with Penelope, the starter we’ve kept alive since 2018.
There are five slices on the menu, $6 or $7 each. Grab one with a focaccia sandwich, a cookie or a cappuccino.
Feeding a group? We make full-size pizzas for catering with 24 hours’ notice.

The starter behind the dough
Vince Stalteri was a construction project manager and engineer until May 17, 2017, when he left to cook. A year later he made his first sourdough starter and called it Anastasia. He nearly lost it, nursed it back and gave it a new name: Penelope.
Penelope has raised the doughs at Penelope Social, our cafe and bar in Woodbridge, since 2023. In 2026 the Bakehouse opened in Scarborough, and it now bakes all of Social’s sourdough.

Feeding a team in Scarborough? Full-size catering pizzas are $45 to $55 each, in five flavours from Margherita to Bee Sting. The red ones are made with San Marzano DOP tomato sauce.
Add focaccia sandwiches cut in four (six minimum, at the large price), give us 24 hours’ notice and pick it all up at the Bakehouse. Prices are on the catering menu.

Do you have vegetarian slices?
Yes, two. The Margherita has fior di latte and basil. The Vodka is vodka sauce, mozzarella and basil.
Is it the same dough as Penelope Social?
It comes from the same starter. The Bakehouse bakes all the sourdough for Penelope Social in Woodbridge.
